UNO rules

UNO is a fast-paced, colorful card game for two to ten players. The goal of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand.

The game is played with a special deck of 108 cards, including numbered cards, action cards, and wild cards.

Rules for playing UNO

  1. The game begins with each player being dealt seven cards. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table to form the draw pile. The top card of the draw pile is turned over to begin the discard pile.
  2. The first player must match the card in the discard pile either by number, color, or symbol. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a red 5, the player can put down a red card or a 5 of any color. If they don’t have a matching card, they must draw a card from the draw pile. If the drawn card can be played, they can play it immediately; otherwise, their turn is over and play passes to the next player.
  3. Action cards add an extra element of strategy to the game. There are several different types of action cards, each with its own effect:
  • Skip: The next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse: The direction of play is reversed.
  • Draw Two: The next player must draw two cards and lose their turn.
  • Wild: The player who plays this card gets to choose the color that continues play.
  • Wild Draw Four: The player who plays this card gets to choose the color that continues play, and the next player must draw four cards and lose their turn.
  1. As players run out of cards, they must shout “UNO” to indicate that they have only one card left. If they fail to do so and are caught by the other players, they must draw two cards as a penalty.
  2. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round and scores points based on the cards remaining in the other players’ hands. The game continues until one player reaches a predetermined number of points, such as 500 points.

UNO is a fun and simple card game that is easy to learn but offers plenty of opportunities for strategy. Give it a try and see how long it takes you to get rid of all your cards!
